If football had to create a perfect striker in a lab, it would be Erling Haaland.
Childhood: The Jæren Viking
Born 21 July 2000 in Leeds, England, while his father Alf-Inge «Alfie» Haaland played for Leeds United. But he grew up on a farm in Bryne, a small town on Jæren, southwestern Norway. Not Oslo, not Bergen – Bryne. Population 13,000. Chickens, tractors, mud.
His mother Gry Marita was a national champion in heptathlon, his father a Premier League defender. So sport was in his blood. As a kid he was obsessed with Cristiano Ronaldo. He broke a world record for standing long jump for 5-year-olds – 1.63m – at age 5. Even then he was a freak athlete.
The Climb:
- Bryne FK (2005-2016): Scored 18 goals in 14 games for the reserve team at 15.
- Molde FK (2017): Ole Gunnar Solskjær was his coach. Solskjær said: «He has everything.» Haaland scored 20 in 50 games. United tried to buy him. He said no.
- Red Bull Salzburg (2019): This is where Europe woke up. 29 goals in 27 games. Hat-tricks in Champions League at 19. He scored against Liverpool, Napoli. Everyone wanted him.
- Borussia Dortmund (2020-2022): 86 goals in 89 games. Won German Cup. Became Bundesliga Player of the Season. But Dortmund was too small for him.
- Manchester City (2022-now): £51.2M release clause. The cheapest super-signing in history. First season: 52 goals in 53 games, Premier League record 36 goals, Golden Boot, European Golden Shoe, Champions League top scorer, Treble. Second season: Another Premier League title. Now he has a new contract until 2034 – 9.5 years – worth around £500k per week.

Norway:
Norway hasn’t been to a World Cup since 1998. But with Haaland and Martin Ødegaard, they dream again. He debuted in 2019. Now 41 caps, 38 goals – already top scorer in Norway’s history, overtaking Jørgen Juve who held the record since 1937. He once scored 9 goals in ONE game for Norway U20 vs Honduras in 2019. Nine.
What makes him so unplayable?
- Body: 195cm, 94kg, 10.9 sec 100m, 1.20m vertical jump. He is faster than most wingers but stronger than most centre-backs.
- Brain: He barely touches the ball. Average 20 touches per game. But 5 of them are chances. He lives inside the 6-yard box. He studies defenders» hips – if the hip turns, he goes the other way.
- Routine: He sleeps with tape over his mouth to breathe through his nose, uses blue-light glasses, takes ice baths, eats only organic food from his farm – heart, liver, steak. 6000 calories a day. No sugar, no alcohol. He calls it «becoming a better animal».

Off the Pitch:
Very private. No tattoos (he says he wants to donate blood more easily), no partying. Best friend is his cousin Jonatan Braut Brunes. Girlfriend is Isabel Haugseng Johansen, also from Bryne, who he met at Bryne academy. They live quietly in Cheshire.
He loves Fortnite, he loves fishing, he loves tractors. He still goes back to Bryne in the summer and helps on the farm. He is shy in interviews – short answers, weird humor. But when he scores, he does the Zen meditation celebration – sits down, closes eyes – to say «I’m in my zone».
The Future:
He is 25. He has already scored 300+ career goals. If he stays healthy, he will break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record (260), Ronaldo’s Champions League record (140), and maybe even become the greatest goalscorer football has ever seen.
Guardiola said it best: «He is not a man. He is a force of nature.»
